The KarDiaN Serotonin Origin S.T. ADD CBF takes the collaborative overdrive created by Susumu Tamura, the engineer behind the original Tube Screamer, and KarDiaN designer Toshikazu Kitada, and expands it with KarDiaN's Clean Blend & Clean LPF (CBF) circuit.
The Origin S.T. was never intended to be another Tube Screamer reproduction. Developed after studying numerous vintage Maxon and Ibanez examples, it is an entirely new overdrive carrying the DNA and experience behind those legendary circuits.
The ADD CBF version takes that concept one step further by addressing something that can happen when an effect is engaged: the loss of certain qualities from the instrument's original clean signal.
ADD CBF – Clean Blend & Clean LPF
Originally developed as a custom modification for a musician, KarDiaN's ADD CBF circuit blends a high-quality clean signal back into the effected sound.
But rather than simply mixing the entire clean signal with the overdrive, a Low-Pass Filter (LPF) allows the clean side to concentrate on the lower-frequency components of the original signal.
This helps restore body and low-end information while reducing frequency overlap between the clean and driven signals.
The result is the distinctive character of the Serotonin Origin S.T., with greater ability to retain the natural weight and response of the instrument.

Black Crane Notes
The interesting part of ADD CBF isn't simply that it adds clean signal back into the overdrive.
By applying a low-pass filter to the clean side, KarDiaN can bring back some of the body and low-frequency information of the original signal without having a full-range clean signal competing with the overdrive.
For players who like the character of the Origin S.T. but want to retain more of their instrument's natural weight and definition, the ADD CBF version offers a particularly clever solution.
