A rather uncommon semi-hollow model from Edwards has just arrived.
Semi-hollow guitars are surprisingly rare within the Edwards lineup under the ESP umbrella, making this a particularly interesting and increasingly difficult model to find. Based on the serial number and pickup production dates, this piece is believed to be from 2023.
Part of the E-SA series, this model differs from many conventional semi-hollow guitars by avoiding the commonly used pressed laminate construction. Instead, both the top and back are carefully carved from solid hard maple by skilled craftsmen — a far more labour-intensive process that results in a richer, more resonant instrument with exceptional clarity and response.
Finished in Edwards’ signature Lacquer Taste Finish (LTS), the thin lacquer top coat allows the wood to resonate more naturally while developing character over time through regular playing. The result is a more organic feel and response that gradually settles into the player’s hands.
The combination of carved solid maple construction and a mahogany center block delivers a focused, articulate tone with excellent sustain, warmth, and definition.
For electronics, Edwards paired this model with a proven set of Seymour Duncan pickups often associated with higher-end ESP instruments. The neck position features the articulate and expressive SH-2n Jazz, while the bridge is fitted with the warmer and more powerful SH-14 Custom 5, offering a broad tonal range suitable for everything from smooth cleans to driven rock tones.
As this model has already been discontinued, they are becoming increasingly difficult to source.
